Leisure Activities in Dorset

There are so many things to do and places to visit, as well as some wonderful events in Dorset near to Plumber Manor. However, our own beautiful gardens are an attraction in themselves. Magnificent trees, a large, sloping lawn, a white bridge over Divelish Stream (good for Pooh Sticks), a pretty tributary of the River Stour that runs through the peaceful and secluded grounds, and the pig sculptures. In spring, the colours can be riotous and the birdsong symphonic! In summer, guests love to recline in deck chairs scattered about the well-manicured lawns, listening to the birds, the breeze in the trees, the trickling of the river; pure therapy. The quintessential English country house garden.

"Very happy visit, company and food and the garden is gorgeous." (Guest Book)

Plumber Manor is perfectly located to enable you to take advantage of the many and varied leisure activities in Dorset and if you’re coming to Dorset by plane, we’re near Henstridge Airfield. The hotel provides an excellent base for exploring the Dorset countryside, its vales and churches, civil war castles and country houses, towns and villages. There are some splendid National Trust properties local to Plumber Manor as well as a host of other attractions, especially the many private and public gardens nearby which are open during the summer months.

This is the heart of Thomas Hardy country providing a splendid variety of activities, from walks and garden tours to golf and horse riding. Hardy referred to this part of Dorset as the ‘vale of little dairies’. The countryside is exceptionally pretty and many of our guests enjoy the lovely walks that surround the hotel. Ask us about the numerous, varied walking routes to suit everyone, the delightful Thomas Hardy driving trails and garden tours for which Plumber is perfectly situated.

This part of England also boasts an impressive number of highly regarded, major independent private schools.

We have a new hard tennis court (with racquets and balls) and a croquet lawn. Golf, riding, fishing, clay pigeon shooting, archery and quad bikes can be arranged nearby although we do ask that you give us some notice.
